About Campus

Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, is situated on a spacious, green campus in the South Campus area of the university, specifically in Bapu Dham, Chanakyapuri. The campus spans approximately 10 acres and is known for its serene, lush environment and well-planned infrastructure.

The college has three main blocks: the Main Building, the Old Science Block, and the New Science Block. The New Science Block is modern and well-equipped with a lift, seminar halls, and 16 well-lit and ventilated laboratories supporting subjects like Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, and Computer Science. The classrooms throughout the campus are furnished with ICT provisions such as projectors and smart boards to enhance teaching and learning.

Facilities on campus include a well-stocked library, a Wi-Fi enabled environment, a medical room with visiting doctors, a cafeteria, and a spacious auditorium. The college also has a large ground that hosts sports and cultural events such as annual sports days and college fests. Sports facilities cater to basketball, badminton, and other games, complemented by a gymnasium.

Food and Recreation

Cafeteria

The cafeteria at the college has undergone a beautiful renovation and features well-designed furniture. It includes a well-ventilated open kitchen for the preparation of certain food items, with chimney hoods above burner stoves. We prioritize maintaining the highest level of hygiene at our food counters and have dedicated storage spaces for groceries, cookware, crockery, cutlery, and dishwashing areas. The water used for cooking and drinking purposes comes from the Reverse Osmosis Water Purification system. It offers a variety of food to the students, including north Indian cuisines, South Indian cuisines, Chinese food, etc. The canteen opens from 8 am to 5 pm. The sitting area for students is also a space for recreation. There is a music system available in this area that allows students to play the music of their choice.

Girls Common Room

The college has a girls’ common room. This is a well-ventilated and spacious room where students can sit and relax during their breaks. One can often find students utilising this space for watching movies together, listening to podcasts or sometimes simply talking to each other. This common room gives students the space to interact outside the classroom, engage in important debates and discussions and foster a feeling of unity and sisterhood among them.

Mother Dairy Kiosk

There's a Mother Dairy outlet within the college premises where a variety of dairy products including ice cream, milkshakes and flavoured yoghurts can be found. Chilled ice cream, milkshakes and other beverages during the mini breaks between classes is a treat for the students, especially during summers. This particular spot is an absolute favourite of the students.

Auditoriums and Halls

Lecture Halls

The college has 5 spacious and ICT-enabled lecture halls that are located in the main building. Equipped with a projector, speaker, mics, and whiteboard, they have a seating capacity of XYZ and are ideal for conducting classes, presentations, and debates. Ventilated and well-lit with natural light, these halls have aisles in the form of graduating stairs and tired-seating so that visibility is never a concern. It creates a space for interactive learning and discussion and facilitates focus and class participation.

NSB Seminar Hall

The Seminar Hall, located in the New Science Block, has a modern design that can accommodate 220 people. The spacious hall is fully air-conditioned and ICT enabled with a speaker system with mics. It is extensively used for academic and extracurricular events. It has hosted lectures, conferences, workshops, academic seminars, film screenings, inter-college events and competitions.

New Auditorium

Maitreyi College has a multi-purpose auditorium, called the New Auditorium, located in the main building with a seating capacity of 300. It is ICT enabled with an elevated stage, sound and lighting facility, and an attached washroom. It is used to host a wide array of activities like lectures, play performances, Freshers’, Farewell, inter-college competitions, film-screenings, etc. It is also used by the cultural societies to hold practice sessions and meetings.

Open Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre, located in the heart of the college, is a vibrant space for cultural fests, events, discussions, and debates. It is an open space and accessible space that stimulates an environment of creativity and intellect among the students. The critical discursive engagements, outside the ambit of the traditional classroom, lead to both vivaad and samvaad and give the students an outlet for self-expression. It is also used by various cultural societies to hold practice sessions and assemblies.

Video Conferencing Room

The Video-Conferencing Room, adjacent to the library, is located in the main building and has a seating capacity of 120. Classically designed and well-furnished, it is an air-conditioned space with multi-media facilities. The advanced audio system, projector, and elevated stage make it an ideal space to host a range of academic and cultural events like lectures, workshops, film screenings, presentations, meetings, theatrical and musical performances. The college has a state of the art in-house ICT infrastructure for organizing webinars, e-workshops and training sessions.

Awards and Recognitions

Maitreyi College has been the proud recipient of many awards at Annual Flower Show organized by the University. Amongst many awards, the College has won the following awards of recognition:

• ‘The Department of Persian Cup’ for the best garden of a college (2022, 2018)
• The Green Cup for the best greenery and cleanliness of the environment of a college (2016)
• Deshbandhu Cup for the best lawn among the Institutes and Colleges (2018, 2016, 2011)
• ‘Dr. A.C. Janaki Amma Cup’ for the best border of mixed flowers (2023, 2023, 2011)
• The University Library Cup: For the best double Dahlia exhibit (2012)
