ABOUT US
Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University (DBRAU), formerly known as Agra University, is a prominent public state university located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with an 'A+' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its third cycle. The university's motto, "Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya" (Lead me from darkness to light), reflects its commitment to knowledge, truth, justice, and social progress.
The foundation of DBRAU was laid on July 1, 1927, as Agra University, through the dedicated efforts of educationists such as Rev. Canon A.W. Davis, Munshi Narain Prasad Asthana, Dr. L.P. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Over the decades, its jurisdiction has evolved and now covers seven districts in the Agra Division: Agra, Aligarh, Mainpuri, Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, and Mathura (though some sources note four core districts: Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, and Mainpuri).
DBRAU aims to advance education, research, innovation, and social service, fostering skilled, responsible citizens committed to humanity and societal duties. It emphasizes inclusive growth, social justice, and progressive values inspired by Dr. Ambedkar's ideals.
