About Us 

Shivaji University, Kolhapur, established in 1962 as a state public university named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, spans an 853-acre campus serving over 300,000 students across 280+ affiliated colleges in Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara districts, with 34 PG departments focusing on regional higher education needs.​

History and Establishment

Inaugurated on November 18, 1962, by President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, led by Yashwantrao Chavan and Balasaheb Desai under the Shivaji University Act, it began with 34 colleges, 14,000 students, and 5 PG departments to promote rural access, research, and socio-economic growth in South Maharashtra and North Karnataka.​
