Introduction 

COEP Technological University, Pune, Asia's third oldest engineering institute established in 1854 as the Poona Engineering Class and Mechanical School, is a public state university offering UG/PG/PhD programs across 9 departments to ~5,000 students on a 45-acre heritage campus in Shivajinagar, renowned for alumni like Sir M. History and Establishment

Started in Bhawani Peth to train Public Works Department officers, renamed Poona Civil Engineering College in 1865 under Principal Theodore Cooke, expanded to include mechanical/electrical degrees (1912/1932), affiliated to University of Bombay then Pune University post-1948, granted autonomy in 2003, and upgraded to full university status in 2023.​
