Motilal Nehru College (MLNC), New Delhi

Introduction

Motilal Nehru College (MLNC), a constituent college of the University of Delhi, is one of the largest institutions in South Delhi, honoring Pandit Motilal Nehru, a prominent freedom fighter, jurist, and leader. Established in 1964, it promotes holistic education across diverse streams, fostering academic excellence, research, and extracurricular growth for over 3,000 students.

History & Establishment

Founded in 1964 under the Delhi Administration as Government Degree College in a school building with 300 students, it was renamed Hastinapur College (1966-1977) before becoming Motilal Nehru College on January 10, 1977. The college shifted to its current 10-acre sprawling campus near Benito Juarez Marg in 1989, featuring extensive lawns, administrative blocks, laboratories, and a library. It celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2014, evolving into a leading co-educational institution with NAAC 'B++' accreditation.

Beginning with a modest enrolment of around 200 students in a school building, it has gone from strength to strength and presently offers courses in Sciences, Humanities and Commerce, and has 100 faculty members and a little over 2000 students. The College was shifted in its new building with sprawling campus, extensive lawns, a large Administrative Block, Library and well equipped laboratories and air-conditioned Computer Science Laboratory in 1989. The College has a vast Playground surrounded with greenery and has a huge Library Block.

Academics & Programs

MLNC offers 32 undergraduate and postgraduate courses across Science, Humanities, Commerce, Agriculture, Chemistry, English, Hindi, Mathematics, Physics, and Sanskrit streams. With around 140 faculty members, the college emphasizes innovative teaching, research, and skill development. Programs are UGC-approved and designed to prepare students for competitive exams, higher studies, and professional careers.

Campus & Facilities

The 10-acre green campus includes a large administrative block, air-conditioned computer science labs, well-equipped science laboratories, a vast library, seminar rooms, and extensive playgrounds for sports. Additional amenities feature ICT-enabled classrooms, Wi-Fi, auditorium, cafeteria, medical facilities, and spaces for NCC, NSS, and cultural activities, creating a vibrant and supportive environment.

Admissions 25-26

Admissions for 2025-26 follow Delhi University's centralized CUET-based process for UG and PG courses. Candidates register via the CSAS portal post-CUET results, with seat allocation through merit lists and counseling rounds. Eligibility requires minimum aggregates (e.g., 50% in Class 12 for UG) and specific subject combinations; reservations apply per government norms. 

Placements & Rankings

The active placement cell organizes drives with recruiters from IT, finance, consulting, and e-commerce sectors. In recent years, placement rates hover around 50-60%, with median packages of INR 4-6 LPA. MLNC ranks 57th in Science, 32nd in Commerce, and 44th in Arts and 62nd in Arts by The Week 2024, reflecting strong employability.
