Introduction

Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), affiliated with the University of Delhi, is a premier institution dedicated to women’s education with an emphasis on liberal arts, commerce, and social sciences. It is widely acclaimed as one of India’s finest all-women’s colleges, committed to academic excellence, creativity, and empowering young women.

History & Establishment

Established in 1956 by the late Lala Shri Ram in memory of his wife Phoolan Devi (Lady Shri Ram), the college started in a modest school building in Daryaganj, Central Delhi, with just 243 students and a few faculty members. The aim was to provide quality higher education to women during a time when educational opportunities for them were limited. The college later moved to its expansive 15-acre campus in Lajpat Nagar, South Delhi. Lala Shri Ram personally supervised the construction and was deeply involved in the college’s growth and administration.

Vision

LSR also wants to nurture values like ethics, compassion, respect and cooperation, so students grow into responsible, kind, and conscious citizens. It provides an environment where every student — no matter her background — gets a fair chance and support to learn and grow.

It has a strong faculty team of around 150 members dedicated to nurturing and mentoring a student body of approximately 2,000.
