Consequently, Dyal Singh College was established at Lahore in 1910. After the Partition of India, Dyal Singh College was established in Karnal and in 1952 at Delhi. It started functioning in the capital at Rouse Avenue as a constituent College of the University of Delhi w.e.f 05.08.1959 and at present location since 16.10.1962. During 1963-1967, it functioned in 2 units from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. The University of Delhi took it over as a University Maintained institution in 1978.

History and Establishment

The college traces its roots to the philanthropy of Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a prominent philanthropist, founder of The Tribune newspaper and Punjab National Bank. In 1895, he willed his estate to establish a secular educational trust. This led to the founding of Dyal Singh College in Lahore in 1910. Following the Partition of India in 1947, the institution relocated, with temporary operations in Karnal and Delhi. It officially commenced in Delhi on August 5, 1959, at Rouse Avenue, and shifted to its current Lodhi Road location on October 16, 1962, with the foundation stone laid by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, then President of India. The college was fully taken over by DU as a maintained institution in 1978.
